The term”Honeymoon” actually originated in the 5th Century when people kept track of their calender by moon cycles. Back then, a newlywed couple drank mead (the “honey”) during their first moon of marriage. What is mead? It is a honey-based alcoholic drink believed to have aphrodisiac properties. But where did the tradition of going on a trip comes from? Actually that came from England in the 19th century when the newlyweds would travel to see friend and family who could not attend their wedding ceremony.
Honeymoons have really changed. It now gives couples a chance to go away usually alone to somewhere exotic or a place where they both had always wanted to go.
